Story Time Goes Online!

The Town of Pelham Public Library held its first virtual story time last week via Facebook Live, as children’s librarian Mr. Oz sang, danced and read to his considerable fans. You can join Mr. Oz every Wednesday at 10:15 am at the Town of Pelham Public Library’s Facebook page, or watch the video recordings, which we will be archiving, any time you wish.

Of course, we’re not the only ones wanting to recreate story time for children stuck at home. Other librarians, book authors and even celebrities have been grabbing their favorite children’s books and live streaming read alouds. Here is a list of virtual story time and read aloud resources compiled by Mr. Oz for children and their caregivers.

• Dav Pilkey at Home — Cartoonist Dav Pilkey reads from his Dogman series. New videos added every Friday at 8 am.
• Goodnight with Dolly—Dolly Parton reads for Imagination Library every Thursday at 7 pm.
• JLibrary — An aggregator of live story times as well as resources for parents and caregivers to create their own story times with videos, fingerplays and songs.
• Larchmont Public Library Story Time —Larchmont is hosting story time for toddlers on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and Family Pajama Story Time on Thursday at 7 p.m via Facebook Live.
• LeVar Burton Reads — 3 Twitter live stream read alouds from LeVar Burton. For children at noon on Mondays, for teens at 6 pm on Wednesdays, and for adults at 9 pm on Fridays.
• The Big List of Children’s Authors Doing Online Read Alouds and Activities. Compiled by teachers, this list includes readings of books by David Shannon, Peter Reynolds and Kate Messner.
• Music by Zev—Zev Haber holds a pre-school music show every morning at 9:30 am.
• Save With Stories —Jennifer Garner and Amy Adams recruit other celebrities to read books via Instagram in response to COVID-19.
• Storyline Online —Picture book read alouds by actors and politicians, such as The Empty Pot read by Rami Malek and Brave Irene read by Al Gore.
• Storytime Saturday from the Children’s Museum —Read alouds of favorites like Goodnight, Gorilla on YouTube.
• Warner Library, Tarrytown, NY —Online story time via Facebook Live on Tuesdays, 11:30 am.
• Wonder by RJ Palacio —Author RJ Palacio is reading aloud from Wonder every Monday at 12 pm on Twitter.
