Lorenzo Carcaterra, Bestselling Author to appear at the Town of Pelham Public Library
Bestselling author and former Pelham resident, Lorenzo Carcaterra will discuss his new book, The Wolf, at the Town of Pelham Public Library. The event will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9. After his presentation, Carcaterra will answer questions and sign copies of his book which will be available for purchase.
Carcaterra’s highly successful career spans more than twenty years of writing for the diverse fields of fiction, non-fiction, television, and film. The Wolf is the latest of Carcaterra’s fast-paced thrillers which often deal with drug smuggling and organized crime. Carcaterra is perhaps best known as the author of Sleepers, the true story of his time spent in a boys’ reform school. The book, written in 1995, was #1 on the New York Times bestseller list with sales of more than 1.4 million copies. Sleepers was made into a major motion picture directed by Barry Levinson and starring Kevin Bacon, Robert DeNiro, Dustin Hoffman and Brad Pitt.
Carcaterra, who lived in Pelham from 1990 to 2005 with his wife and two children, said he is delighted to be speaking at the Pelham Library. “I loved my years spent in Pelham and always look back at them with fondness. It was a great place to live and work. Good neighbors, good food (no one beats Pelham Gourmet), great mechanic (Nick) and an amazing house–it was a pleasure to raise our kids there.”
“We’re thrilled to have Lorenzo visit the Pelham Library,” said Adult Services Librarian Augusta Turner. “Lorenzo is always a charismatic and entertaining speaker and, despite the often disturbing nature of his books, he’s really a nice guy!”
Please note that the library is not normally open Tuesday evenings, so regular Library services will not be available.
Born and raised in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, Carcaterra landed his first job in the newspaper business as a copy boy for The New York Daily News in 1976 eventually working his way up to entertainment reporter. After stints at various publications he turned to writing for film and television including the popular long-running series, Law & Order. In addition to Sleepers, Carcaterra is the author of A Safe Place: The True Story of a Father, a Son, a Murder as well as well several novels including Apaches, Gangster, Paradise City, Chasers and Midnight Angels.
The Wolf is the first in a series of mob vs. terrorist thrillers and tells the story of Vincent Marelli, the world’s most powerful mob-boss, who loses his wife and daughters in a terrorist attack and resolves to avenge them. Rallying the heads of the globe’s top criminal organizations—the Camorra of Italy, the Yakuza of Japan, the Triads of China, the French, Algerians, Israelis and Greeks—Marelli launches a war against a terrorist faction wreaking havoc on Europe and the hidden entity that funds them. Movie rights to the novel have been purchased by producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura.
