Library Card Sign-Up Month
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, a national campaign to emphasize the importance of library cards to a child’s education and to combat illiteracy. This campaign started in 1987 when then Secretary of Education, William Bennett, stated: “Let’s have a campaign … Every child should obtain a library card and use it.” Libraries took this quote to heart and dedicated the month to encourage library use among every age group in their community including adults.
Here at The Town of Pelham Library, we are celebrating in a few ways:
- K-Day is our annual event when Pelham children entering kindergarten can get their first library cards. This year the celebration will be held on Saturday, September 23 from 10:30am-2pm. Learn more about it here.
- Late fee forgiveness. Bring in your overdue books or other library items during the month of September and we will waive all of the late fees that have accumulated on your card! (Sorry, this does not apply to charges for books and other items that are lost or damaged).
