See What the Library’s Book Clubs for Adults Have in Store for October

This October, check out either of the Library’s two Book Clubs for adults. The After-Dark Book Club meets on Thursday, October 4  at 7:30 p.m., and the 2nd-Friday Book Club meets on Friday, October 12 at 10:30 a.m. Both clubs are open to anyone who wants to join at any time, and there is no ongoing obligation.

Here is what the clubs have in store for October:

The After-Dark Book Club will be discussing The Children Act by Ian McEwan. This  2014 novel centers around a court case involving Jehovah’s Witnesses denying medical treatment to their dying teenage son, and the middle aged female judge who must decide the case.

The 2nd-Friday Book Club will discuss Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. This novel is about a Chinese-American family living in Ohio in the 1970s, and all that follows when favorite child Lydia is found dead in a local lake. It is described as, “A profoundly moving story of family, secrets, and longing, Everything I Never Told You is both a gripping page-turner and a sensitive family portrait, uncovering the ways in which mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, and husbands and wives struggle, all their lives, to understand one another.”

For the full schedule of meetings and selected books through next June, click here for the After-Dark Book Club and here for the 2nd-Friday Book Club. There are usually extra copies of the book each club is focusing on each month at the Circulation Desk.
