The Summer Reading Game for Kids Returns – Read Stories and Win Prizes!
The Library’s children’s Summer Reading Game, this year themed “A Universe of Stories,” kicks off with a Big Bang on June 26 with Didi Maxx’s magic show at 3 p.m.! Sign-up has already begun for the Game, which encourages kids to read over the summer; sign-up ends on Wednesday, July 31. For complete game rules and the sign-up form, click on this link at pelhamlibrary.org. Participants are also welcome to sign-up online at the Library.
Here are the basics: Children, from pre-school through grade eight, receive prizes for how many minutes they read. Once they’ve signed up online, registrants can stop by the Library to pick up an official “Timed Reading Record” and a book of stickers. Children collect stickers — one per every 20 minutes of reading time — either by reading on their own or being read to. They can collect one prize at the Library for every three stickers they earn during the program run, and will receive the prize of a book for every nine stickers they earn. Participants will also be entered in the Library’s raffle for a Merge Cube each time they complete their entire Reading Record, and then will receive a new Reading Record.
Throughout the summer there are additional fun programs and movie screenings at the Library. Check out the Library’s online calendar or pick up a brochure at the Library.
The Summer Reading Game will conclude with a make-your-own-sundae ice cream party for children who participated on Thursday, August 22rd at 3 p.m.
Adults needn’t miss out on all the fun. The Library is also offering a Summer Reading Bingo game for adults (including teens) this summer. For information on that program, click here.
The Summer Reading Games, kick-off event, Ice Cream Party and prizes are generously supported by the Friends of the Town of Pelham Public Library.
