Circulation – Borrowing

When you borrow materials, they need to be returned to the Library in the same condition as when they were borrowed. Items must be returned in their entirety (i.e. all parts must be present together) before item can be checked in. You may return materials at any Westchester Library System member library, but please remember that other libraries in Westchester may have different lending and fine structures.

If you owe more than $10.00 in actual or estimated bills, you may not borrow materials from this library, until your account is paid down and/or items are checked in. Fines cannot be paid until items are checked in. You may pay in person by cash, check or credit card. You may also pay online by clicking here (subject to a $2.50 convenience fee).

Renewing Items: Please see the How do I… page for complete information on renewing materials.

Extended Summer Loans: Books are available for extended summer loans. This may be a great option if you don’t have enough time to complete a book in 3 weeks and especially nice for long books. It’s also an option to consider if you plan on traveling for longer than 3 weeks, the regular circulation period. Extended summer loans are only available for older (not new) fiction and non-fiction books in print format only that are not in high demand. Summer Reading titles for students are also not available for extended loans. Please ask the Circulation Desk for more information. We’re happy to try and accommodate your particular needs.

Exterior Book Drop: Our book drop located by the Carol Place Entrance allows you to return materials at your convenience. Items left in the book drop before the Library opens will be checked in for the previous day.

  • If the Book Drop is full or clogged, please do not leave materials outside the book drop. Borrowers will be responsible for missing or lost items not checked in. While this doesn’t happen very often, please call us and let us know you could not return your item(s).

Holds Pick-up: In accordance with the Town of Pelham Public Library (the “Library”) Privacy Policy and New York State Civil Practice Law & Rules 4509 with respect to the confidentiality of Library records, the Library does not permit third parties to pick up library materials reserved on your library card. If you would like to grant permission to a third party to pick up library materials on your behalf, you must complete and sign a form, available at the Library, which will be kept on file. Note that any items picked up by a permitted third party will be charged out to your library card account, making you responsible for the item(s)’ return and any fines or lost fees that may be incurred. For further information please speak to the circulation staff.

Lost Materials: Library materials must be paid for.
  • Please do not purchase a replacement copy. Instead we ask that you pay the cost of the lost item.
  • Once lost items are paid for, if they are later found, they are yours to keep. If you wish you may donate the items to the Library.
